Purbaa, an indigenous mango variety originating in the fertile soil of the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, is one of the rare mango varieties on the brink of extinction. Itβs very aromatic, flavourful, and juicy. It tastes very sweet (TSS up to 24 brix) with a distinct aftertaste. The pulp has a little bit of fibre, which is negligible. The average weight is 350 grams. Shelf life is moderate: 5-7 days. It is a mid-season mango that ripens in the first week of June. The seed is medium and monoembryonic. The trees are vigorous, with a dense canopy. Itβs a regular and heavy bearer.
