Katiman / Chok Anon is a natural selection originated in South-east Asia (believed to be the Philippines because of its resemblance with Carabao mango in terms of taste and flavour profile). Katiman tastes very sweet (TSS: up to 24 brix) and is mildly aromatic. It has typical South-East Asian flavour profile. Its average weight is 300-500 grams. It is harvested twice-a-year: June & November-December in West Bengal (India), Florida (USA); July & December in North India. However, this may vary with the microclimate and gardening practice. The trees are semi-dwarf with open canopies. Katiman is best suited for table consumption. The off-season harvest of Katiman fetches a good price for its farmers. However, with the increasing popularity of much better all time mango variety TJC, the farming of Katiman as an all time variety tends to decrease in the coming years. Katiman is suitable for commercial farming / rooftop gardens / terrace gardens / kitchen gardens.
