Chandan Khosa is rather an unknown mango variety which has the potential of being a commercial and export friendly mango variety. It originated from the royal orchards of Murshidabad, West Bengal, India. As aromatic as sandalwood (peel of the mango emits a unique sandal-like aroma - very pleasant smell), Chandan Khosa tastes out-of-the-world (very sweet, TSS up to 27 brix). It tastes like a combination of tropical fruits, milk, honey and spices. It has a very pleasant yet complex flavour profile which sets it a class apart from the other royal varieties of Murshidabad. Its average weight is 250 grams. It is harvested during the early-mid season - May-end in West Bengal, India. The stones are small and monoembryonic. It is a regular bearer. Chandankhosa trees are semi-dwarf with dense canopies (trees of any mango variety in the world can be kept low provided regular pruning is done). Chandankhosa is best suited for table consumption. The best part of Chandankhosa is its extraordinary shelf life despite being a TSS27+ mango variety. After harvest, Chandankhosa mangoes remain afresh up to 10 days. With such long shelf life, heavenly taste profile and sandalwood like aroma, Chandankhosa can be adopted for commercial farming provided adequate publicity is done to make mango connoisseurs aware of this extra ordinary mango variety. Chandankhosa is highly recommended for commercial farms / Rooftop Gardens / Kitchen Garden / Terrace Gardens / Small orchard.
