Bari 4, originated at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), is a cross between M-3896 (from Florida, USA) and Ashwina (from India) mango varieties. The mangoes are mildly aromatic, adequately sweet (TSS up to 21 brix) with an average weight of 400 grams. It is a late-season mango variety - harvested during July in West Bengal (India), August in North India. The trees exhibit a semi-dwarf growth habit with dense canopies. Bari-4 is best suited for table purposes. Diced ripened Bari-4 cubes can also be added to fruit salads. Since it is a heavy and regular bearer with an acceptable taste profile that becomes available in late season, it fetches high returns for the mango farmers. Thus, Bari-4 is suitable for commercial mango farming. Mango lovers and enthusiasts can also plant this in their kitchen gardens / rooftop gardens.
