Pusa Manohari was bred by crossing \u003cstrong\u003eAmrapali × Lal Sundari\u003c\/strong\u003e, combining regular bearing with an attractive, uniform fruit shape — a trait Amrapali crosses are well known for.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe hybrid was developed by a team of ICAR-IARI scientists: \u003cstrong\u003eDr Jai Prakash, Dr Manish Srivastava, Dr Kanhaiya Singh, Dr (Mrs) Nimisha Sharma and Dr Shruti Sethi.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003ePusa Manohari is elongated-oblong and notably uniform in shape, averaging 300\u003cstrong\u003e grams (sometimes it grows more than 350 grams)\u003c\/strong\u003e. The peel is attractive red upon ripening (as per the observation at Amrakunja Nursery \u0026amp; Farms), enclosing yellow-orange, completely fibreless pulp. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003ePusa Manohari tastes sweet with a pleasant aroma and a good sugar-acid balance — \u003cstrong\u003eTSS 20.38%\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eacidity 0.27%\u003c\/strong\u003e — backed by strong nutritional credentials: \u003cstrong\u003eascorbic acid 39.78 mg\/100 g\u003c\/strong\u003e and an exceptionally high \u003cstrong\u003ebeta-carotene content of 9,738 µg\/100 g\u003c\/strong\u003e pulp. Pulp recovery is excellent - around 70%, making the cultivar equally suited to fresh table use and processing (pulp, juice).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eIt bears regularly and productively, yielding about \u003cstrong\u003e58 kg per tree (a 10-year old tree)\u003c\/strong\u003e, translating to an estimated \u003cstrong\u003e16.1 t\/ha\u003c\/strong\u003e. It bears in the last week of June in West Bengal, India.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003ePusa Manohari seeds are medium in size and monoembryonic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003ePusa Manohari trees are semi-vigorous, allowing closer planting than many traditional varieties — around \u003cstrong\u003e278 trees per hectare\u003c\/strong\u003e at a 6 m × 6 m spacing.
